How to submit a query to the PRA mail list.

1. Use this format:

In your query, please provide as much information as possible about the person/s you are researching. This includes the first (given) name, middle (if any) and surname (last); dates of birth (or approximate if exact is not know - for example use ca [circa] or abt [about] ), marriage, census, and death; any locations for the basic dates (such as birth, marriage and death).

A sample query might look like this:

Looking for any information on John James PENNINGTON, b. 23 Mar 1815 in Marin Co., CA, m. 1 Apr 1835 in Marin Co., CA, d. 8 Dec 1915 in Marin Co., CA. Married Jane Mary SMITH, b. 10 Dec 1817.

2. If you are a subscriber to the list, send an e-mail message to the list following the format above.

3. If you are not a subscriber to the list, we encourage you to join our PRA mail list and submit your query. That way, you will receive any replies directly on the list. Click here to join the PRA mail list. However, if you do not wish to join the mail list, you can send a message directly to the mail list but it will be held until approved for posting. To send a message to the PRA mail list, send your message to PRA@rootsweb.com. When you send your query, please follow the instructions described in #1 above.
