Alfred Pennington and two of his brothers, James and Andrew Jackson, married Sturgill sisters, daughters of Solomon and Rebecca Thomkins) Sturgill. Alfred must have been a restless person as he is found next in Indian Territory (Kansas) where a daughter was born abut 1866. She appeared on the 1870 Morris County, Kansas census as "C.E.", age 4 years old. However, she does not appear in the 1880 St. Clair County, Missouri census with the family. Alfred had two more daughters, Ida May, born 1869, and Addie Lee, born 1871, and a son, Ernest, born 1873, all in Kansas. Between that time and 1880, he and his family moved to Illinois, and a daughter, Eva Emma, born 1876, and a son, Alfred, born 1878/9, were born there. Alfred and his family appeared in the St. Clair County, Missouri census. His sisters, Susanna and Frances, who married Thompson brothers, were living in the El Dorado Springs, Missouri area. He seems to have had a special fondness for the sisters as letters exist that he wrote to them. Between 1880 and 1890, Alfred's wife Jemima died, and Alfred is found in 1900 in Ripley County, Missouri, with a wife named Elizabeth Smith and an orphan girl, Hattie Howard, age 10, born in Indian Territory, living with them. The census states they have been married for ten years and have no children.(1) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WIFE NOTES: Jemima Sturgill ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- General: (1) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHILD NOTES: Solomon Pennington ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- General: Solomon Pennington was born 11 Feb 1860 in Lawrence County, Kentucky. Solomon, by 1880, had married his first wife, Alice A. Galloway, but she died in childbirth in 1881, and is reported to have been buried in or near El Dorado Springs, Missouri. After that, he moved to Washington County, Arkansas, and met and married Lounartha Harp, daughter of Andrew Jackson Harp and Sarah Jane Cruse, both from Georgia. Solomon and Lounartha were married 18 May 1884, and immediately moved to Ripley County, Missouri, where they remained the rest of their lives, raising a family of eight children. Solomon, Lounartha, the daughter Cora who died in 1917, and Alfred, are all buried in New Hope Cemetery, Acorn, Ripley County, Missouri. Solomon was a carpenter and millwright, and was a charter member of Purman Camp 9291 - Woodmen of America.(1,2) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHILD NOTES: C.
