His 1760 marriage to Joanna caused a complaint from Horsham Friends (25-8 mo.-1760) that was not only not of the faith, but also "too close of kin". When Thomas Sr. wrote his will in 1773 the boys William and Jacob were quite young. The farm in Moreland was to be divided between them when William became of age. In 1779 Robert Barns paid the tax on Thomas Pennington's estate; in 1780 John Dance (later to become the son-in-law of Edmund Pennington of Montgomery) held the property for the boys. In 1782 and 1783, William was taxed for 65 acres in Moreland, and Jacob's 65 acres were held by William Johnson, from which we suppose William came of age about 1782 and Jacob was still underage in 1783. Both of the boys are listed on Moreland Militia Muster for 1873. PP13-1, pg 27. The list of children appears to be incomplete judging from census records which seem to show at least 11 children.(1) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WIFE NOTES: Anna Walton ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- General: (1) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHILD NOTES: Martha Pennington ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- General: Unmarried.
