Ancestor: Rebekah Pennington

Group:

Share:    Yes

Date:     01/26/03

Time:     08:21 PM

Details:

I am seeking information on Rebekah Pennington.  According to Marriage Records of Warren Co., GA she was the second wife of George COTTEN and birthed two children before dying in 1811.  Her death was recorded in the Charleston Observer of Charleston, SC  Warren Co., GA cemetery records show no burial information.

George Cotten was from Edgecombe Co., NC.  His first wife was Amelia Beall, daughter of Thaddeus Beall, and she was the sister of Leatha Beall who married Thomas Pennington. George Cotten was an adjoining landowner to Thomas Pennington in Warrren Co.

Children of George Cotten and Amelia Beall:

George Wimberly Cotten (Rev. – Methodist minister, b.c. 1798, died in AL, 1837; 1 daughter: Amelia Ann [Milner]) Amaziah “Mazy” Dent Cotton (b.c. 1799, m. William R. Russell, d. 1852, AL; children: George R., Amelia Jane [Fagan], Louisa W., Nancy Stewart, Julia Adelaide Cotten [Pullen], William Arnold, James Thomas)

Children of George Cotten and Rebekah Pennington:

Julia Ann (b. 1809, m. Thomas Franklin Bethel of Upson Co., GA  in 1830, d. 1897, Upson Co; no issue) James Kennon,(doctor; b. 1811, m. Sarah Williams Reid of Taliaferro Co., GA  in 1838, d. 1879, Cobb Co., GA.; children: James Fed, Joseph Augustus Mirabeau Beall Lamar, Rebecca J. [Mayson], Julia Juvernia Venona “Bunnie” [Abbott], George W., Alonzo, Lula Hattie [Hull].

George married a third time, to Susannah Gibson, in Warren Co., GA in 1812. They had at least 6 children before he died in 1833. His burial, in Warren Co., is also unknown.

I would like confirmation of Rebekah’s family.  I suspect she is a sister to Thomas Pennington who married Leatha Beall, but there is no proof. I do want to add that there has been a mystery of possibly “mixing” within the line of James Kennon Cotten. Any thoughts on that are appreciated…
