Sir Isaac Pennington was born in 1587 in

He died on December 17, 1661 in Tower of
London, England.
Isaac, of London, a merchant, ca 40
years, at his father's death, 1627, knighted by
the Speaker of the House of Commons, and in 1649
was made a member of the Council of State,
succeeded to all his father's lands and
tenements in Suffolk and Norfolk, High Sheriff
of London, 1638, M.P. for the City in 1640-1,
and lord mayor in 1643, lieutenant of the tower
and one of the commissioners of the High Court
of Justice for the trial of King Charles I, but
he did not sign the warrant for his execution;
he was betrayed by King Charles II, and
committed to the Tower of London in 166O, and
his estates confiscated. He was sentenced to
death, and died in the Tower, from the effects
of ill-usage, 17 Dec 1661, before his sentence
was put into execution.

Southwark, Surrey, Daniel Wharley, citizen and
glover of London, and Isaac Pennington of
Pennsylvania, merchant, v. Joseph Wyeth and
others re the descent of the estate of John
Pennington of Buckinghamshire, gent, who died
testate but without issue in 1710. The plaintiff
Isaac Pennington was the son of Edward
Pennington of West New Jersey, a brother of the

EDWARD PENINGTON (1766-1834)
Edward Penington, the only
son of Edward and Sarah Shoemaker Pennington,
who married and left issue, was born May 8,
1766. He was associated in business with his
eldest brother, Isaac Penington, as already
indicated. Like his ancestors, he was possessed
of literary tastes and was the owner of a
library comprising over 6,000 volumes. In 1834
he was elected a member of the American
Philosophical Society.
From 1805 to 1823 he was a
manager of the Pennsylvania Hospital. He married
September 27, 1798, Helena Lawrence Holmes, and
died March 16, 1834. His widow died January 28,
1852. They had six children, all sons as
follows: John, Edward, William Le Conte,
Lawrence, Henry, and George.
Very few descendants survive
of this notable family of distinguished
ancestors off spring of the doughty Old Mayor of
London, the friend and follower of Cromwell.

The fifth of the six brothers, Henry
Penington, was born September 19, 1809, and died
without issue November 11, 1858. He was admitted
to the Philadelphia bar October 21, 1828, and
published in 1847, en American edition of
Holthouses' Law Dictionary.

died on November 10, 1809. The
youngest of these six sons, George Penington,
who was born July 17, 1809, died in infancy,
November 10, 1809.

Thomas Barton Rev. and Ester Rittenhouse) in
September 1797.
