FIRST GENERATION
1.
Robert Pennington Group was born on
January 17, 1754 in MD. He died
on April 22, 1826 in Centre Co., PA. (1) He was
buried in Centre Hall, Centre Co., PA,
Pennington Cem..
Robert Pennington was born on the Eastern
Shore of Maryland on 17 Jan. 1754. His
parents were members of the English Episcopal
Church, in the faith of which he was educated. He moved
into the region (Penn's Valley) in Centre Co.,
PA about 1776, about two years after he married. It is
said that Robert Pennington was the founder of
Methodism in this part of the country. He is honored among its people
as the first Methodist of Penn's Valley. He built
a log chapel among the mountains, which is still
familiarly known as "Father Pennington's
Church".

Robert Pennington served in
the 5th Maryland Regiment commanded by Col. W.
Richardson, Lieut. George Hamilton's Co. He
enlisted February 10th, 1777 and was discharged
November 1st, 1780. From DAR papers.
Robert get "one
shilling" in his mother's will of 1789.
He was married to Rebecca
Benn in 1774.
Rebecca
Benn was born on April 16, 1756 in New
Castle Co., DE.
She died on October 11, 1824 in Centre
Co., PA. (2) She was
buried in Centre Hall, Centre Co., PA,
Pennington Cem..
